Designing data visualizations on Google (CMPT 1531)

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the popularity of data visualizations have surged. Data visualizations have played a significant role in communicating important information in a simple yet convincing fashion.

Data visualization is a powerful technique to communicate meaning in today’s digital content ecosystem where increased smartphone usage is leading to audiences consuming information more quickly. In this environment, text alone is no longer as effective and it is increasingly necessary to capture the viewer’s attention with visual content to deliver meaning. Data visualization is the perfect method to do this as that makes data visually appealing, interactive, and easily understandable. They are the “hook” that makes viewers stop, take notice, and invites them to engage more substantively with information.

In this instructor-led training, you will learn about the design principles for effective communication through data visualization and you will utilize datasets for designing charts through Google tools.

You will learn through live demonstrations while interacting with a subject matter expert.
