Students study basic vocabulary needed for everyday life in Canada. They orally make simple requests, give basic personal information, and ask very basic questions. Students understand and respond, verbally or non-verbally, to simple requests and very basic questions. Students study the alphabet, start to build up a sight-reading vocabulary, copy words, phrases and short simple sentences. Some examples of possible vocabulary units are: family, numbers and counting, days and months, feelings/ emotions, weather and seasons.
