Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Correspondence (MDRT 1103)
- who lack formal theory instruction and are working in MDR in primary health-care facilities, private clinics and dental clinics, or
- who need a theory refresher to return to the workforce, or
- who are living outside of the Lower Mainland, are new to MDR, and need theory training for employment as MDR Technicians.
Students learn concepts and principles in the following areas: Overview of MDR Departments, Professional Practice, Infection Prevention and Control, Occupational Health and Safety in MDR, Medical Devices, Decontamination, Disinfection, Preparation and Packaging, Sterilization, Storage and Distribution, Endoscopes and Quality Assurance. This course is based on Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards and best practices for safe and effective sterilization of reusable medical devices in Canada.
CSA recognizes VCC as an approved MDRT training provider. Students who meet CSA requirements may be eligible to write the optional CSA Canadian Certification exam to become a Certified Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (CMDRT). Please refer to CSA website for specific requirements.
Registration is on-going for this course. Student may register at any time, and have one year to complete the course. The course is paper-based, and students must successfully pass two multiple choice exams in order to complete the course. A Learning Activities Booklet is provided to enhance student learning, and a tutor is available via email.

Please note: This course does not include a practicum or clinical, and is not accepted by hospitals in the Lower Mainland of BC.
